• Procession of the Venerable and Life-giving Cross

    In the upper part of the icon, against a city wall of Constantinople, is the Deesis, in the central part of which is the figure of the blessing Jesus Christ with a gospel in his hands. On either side of Him, stand in a three-quarter turn the figures of the Mother of God, John the Baptist, saint John Chrysostom and Basil the Great. In the lower part of the icon, on either sides of the spring-well with a cross, surrounded by angels, stand the groups of the afflicted.

    Composition of the icon consists of two parts: in the upper part of the icon against the background of the temple is represented the Savior blessing with both His hands, the Mother of God, John the Baptist and two groups of the saints interceding for Him and below is depicted spring-well with the sick people being cured. Above the spring-well are the angels followed by the cross crowned with a wreath.

    In the central part of the icon, on either side of the spring, above which hovers an angel with a cross, are the suffering. In the upper part is the blessing Jesus Christ, flanked by the Mother of God and John the Baptist.
