Procession of the Venerable and Life-giving Cross

Iconography:  Procession of the Venerable Wood of theof Our Lord

Date: XVI century. 1510-1520s (c. 1515?)

Origin: From the Pokrov monastery in Suzdal

Material: Wood, levkas, tempera

Dimensions:  height 108 cm, width 87 cm

Composition of the icon consists of two parts: in the upper part of the icon against the background of the temple is represented the Savior blessing with both His hands, the Mother of God, John the Baptist and two groups of the saints interceding for Him and below is depicted spring-well with the sick people being cured. Above the spring-well are the angels followed by the cross crowned with a wreath.
