Iconography:  The image of the monastery

Origin: From the collection of the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius.

Material: Wood, tempera

Dimensions:  height 44,4 cm, width 36,7 cm

The icon is a copy a 17th century icon depicting the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius, surrounded by a defensive wall with towers. Inside the monastery are the depictions of churches and other monastery buildings that had existed by the time the icon was being painted, and three groups of saints and monks, some walking to the churches and other knelt in prayer. Above the image of the monastery is an icon of The Old Testament Trinity and inscription “The hermitage of the Holy Life-giving Trinity of our venerable father hegumen Sergius of Radonezh.”
