Christ in Majesty
Iconography: Christ in Majesty
Date: XV century. Late 15th century
Material: Wood, tempera
Dimensions: height 106 cm, width 76 cm
Christ Pantocrator is depicted enthroned surrounded by the heavenly host. His right hand is blessing, His left hand holds the open Gospel book. Figure of the Savior is painted inside the glorious halo looking like a rhombus, an oval and a quadrangle put on each other. In the corners of the quadrangle are represented the depictions of the four apocalyptic beasts - the angel, the lion, the calf and the eagle symbolizing the four evangelists.
Warm transparent colors, delicate oval of the face and the figure of Christ inside the tetramorph with the symbols of evangelists, palaeographical traces of the inscription on the open Gospel book «Не на лица зрящи судите сынове человечестии но праведен суд судите ю же меру мерите розмертся яко», wide orange-shaded edging on the borders (the lateral and the lower borders are sawn) show that this centerpiece of the Deesis row followed the already well-established by the end of the 15th century local tradition of Poshekhonye.
Was deposited in 1931 as part of the pre-revolutionary collection of the museum, its previous location is unknown.
