John the Baptist is depicted as Angel of the Desert. In his left hand he holds a scroll and a chalice with the Infant Christ lying thereupon. In the upper part is an image of the Lord Sabaoth. In the corners are the scenes from the saint’s life. To the left is the scene of the Nativity of John the Baptist and the angel leading the Infant John to the desert; to the right is the Decapitation of John the Baptist and the Finding of the Baptist’s Head.
