Iconography:  Blaise of Sebastia, St.

Date: XV century. The late 15th – early 16th centuries.

Iconographic school/art center:  The Novgorod school, the northern province.

Origin: From the Church of Sts. Florus and Laurus in the village of Mergrega, Olonetsky district, the Republic of Karelia.

Material: Wood, tempera

Dimensions:  height 53 cm, width 43,7 cm

The icon portrays the half-length figures of the saint blessing with his right hand and holding a gospel with his left. The saint’s image is noted for prayerful concentration and spiritual enlightenment.
