Iconography:  Peter the Apostle

Date: XIV century. 1387–1395.

Iconographic school/art center:  Constantinople.

Origin: From the Church of the Conception of the Holy Virgin of the Vysotsky Monastery in Serpukhov. The church had received the icons from Constantinople in the 1380s-1390s.

Material: Wood, tempera

Dimensions:  height 148 cm, width 98 cm

A half-length image. The Apostle stands to the right of Christ, his head is slightly inclined. His right hand is raised in a benedictory gesture. With his left hand Peter holds up a conically bent big sheet of vellum with a text. Under the sheet, on a string, hangs a key.
