Origin: From the iconostasis of the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul in Kozhevniki, Novgorod

Material: Wood, tempera

Dimensions:  height 162 cm, width 97 cm

The icon represents a scene of the Dormition of the Mother of God. Against an architectural landscape is a figure of the Mother of God lying on the coach and surrounded by the apostles. In the center is a figure of Jesus Christ holding a swaddled baby, the symbol of the immaculate soul. In the lower part of the icon is an angel cutting off Aphonia’s hand.
