Date: XV century. 1497

Iconographic school/art center:  The Rostov icon-painting school

Origin: The icon was formerly part of a festival row in the Cathederal of the Dormition in the St.Cyril – Belozersky monastery.

Material: Wood, levkas, tempera

Dimensions:  height 84 cm, width 66,5 cm

The icon shows a scene of the Exaltation of the Cross at the Golgotha before the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Two Jews in the presence of the high-priests and scribes are raising the Cross, with a city wall of Jerusalem seen against the background.
